  Cape Hatteras Island has been drawing visitors from all over the world who have read or heard of its rich history and salty sea legends. The Outer Banks Motel is located on the ocean side of the island 35 miles south of the Oregon Inlet bridge in the center of the Cape Hatteras region on Hatteras Island. The Gulf stream flows a scant 12 miles offshore. 

The Outer Banks Motel was established in 1955 by the Dillon family with a strong history on the island of over 100 yrs.  The motel has been standing strong for over 50 yrs. Losing 5 cottages to storms in 1972, which were rebuilt in 1974. In 1992 five more cottages were taken by the ocean during hurricane Emily.  Here in the view of the Outer Banks Motel is a beautiful sandy beach ideal for sunbathing, swimming and surf-casting. Two hundred yards across the street from the motel lies the expansive but serene waters of the Pamlico Sound, ideal for boating and crabbing.
